About the Project
SW 26th Road Residence is a contemporary single-story home designed for a residential site in Miami, Florida. The project takes a deliberately horizontal architectural position, organizing the entire residential program on a single level rather than stacking floors. This approach prioritizes accessibility, daily livability, and the kind of seamless indoor-outdoor flow that two-story residences cannot match, while creating a quieter, more grounded architectural presence within its block.
The flat roof design reinforces the horizontal architectural language and introduces a strong contemporary visual identity to the residence. Clean horizontal rooflines extend across the home's massing, creating deep overhangs that provide the shading required to manage South Florida sun and rain without compromising the relationship between interior and exterior. The flat roof also supports the home's restrained modern composition, allowing the materials and the geometry to speak for themselves rather than competing with traditional roof forms.
The facade pairs warm wood cladding with floor-to-ceiling glass, a combination that introduces tactile texture and natural warmth into an otherwise minimal architectural composition. The wood cladding is detailed cleanly across the elevations, providing rhythm and material contrast against the glass while grounding the lighter elements with a sense of organic warmth. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls run across the primary facades, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior throughout the day and bringing daylight deep into the open floor plan within. The covered outdoor living area extends the home's program directly into the landscape, providing a true second living room shaded by the architecture itself and supporting the indoor-outdoor lifestyle central to successful Miami residential design. Tropical landscaping wraps the property, knitting the architecture into its environment and softening the rectilinear geometry of the home with mature plantings. The design philosophy prioritizes ease of living, daily flow, and architectural restraint over visual spectacle. The result is a refined modern home built for daily livability in one of Miami's established residential neighborhoods.
